Apple, Starbucks and Disney — these are all easily recognizable brands. Some may even call them cult brands. Reaching such a distinguished status in your industry takes time, effort and dedication. Observing the immense success of these billion dollar companies, you may find yourself asking, how exactly does a company reach cult-like status?
In his latest blog post, motivational keynote speaker Scott Greenberg examined a few qualities of cult brands and what makes them so successful. Building a sense of community and employing a more personalized attitude among customers is a great place to start if you want the public to be able to better connect with your brand.

Sell a feeling, not just a product.
One thing that sets cult brands apart from the rest is the feeling customers associate with their product or service. Why do customers continue to buy coffee from Starbucks when they can purchase lower-priced coffee elsewhere? It’s partially because of the feeling of sophistication that the brand elicits, which customers are willing to pay a premium for, Scott writes.
Consider what business you’re really in.
If you want your company to rank among the top while maintaining a loyal base of customers, you can start by creating a positive feeling that customers will relate to your business. You can begin by asking yourself, “What business do I really work in?” Take the fruit basket business, for example. Selling fruit baskets does not just place your company in the fruit basket business. Rather, it places your company in the celebration business. No matter what industry you work in, it’s safe to say that you are a part of the happiness business — a business every single person in any industry is also a part of.

Connect with your customers.
Customers do not always return to a business solely for its product or service. Many times, they return to a business so they can be met with the same positive feelings and interactions they have previously experienced with the company. Giving your business a personal touch will bode well for the future of your company, since it will allow customers to feel welcome and appreciated. Not only will a personal connection encourage your customers to return in the future, but it will also attract new customers who are also seeking that personal connection.
