Lisa Copeland’s Tips on How to Increase Sales

Whether your business is in a rut or is perfectly successful on the sales front, there may come a time when you make the decision that a few changes are necessary in order for your business to prosper. In many cases, it is likely that you will need to increase sales to make your business more known among customers.

Lisa Copeland, one of the top 100 women in the automotive industry, is unapologetically fierce when it comes to making sales. As a manager at the Fiat dealership in Austin, Texas, in 2012, she led her team in breaking the NAFTA sales record by selling 100 new Fiat 500s in only one month. Her sales process is best described as bold, productive and accomplished.

Understandably, it can be difficult to formulate a concise business plan that will result in increased sales. Luckily, Lisa has some tips to help you succeed in increasing sales and leading your business to success.

Be Fearless

“In sales, you must learn to be fearless, meaning that if you aren’t bold you will never even get started,” Copeland says.

Fearlessness and boldness is a powerful combination in the business world. Possessing these two qualities in all aspects of your business shows others that you will do whatever it takes to achieve your goals and lead your company to success. If you don’t take these risks, Lisa says, you will have a hard time getting your feet on the ground and even getting started on the sales process. The best thing to do is be fearless, take some risks and do what you have to do until you see the sales begin to rise.

Engage With Your Clients

The relationship between you and your clients plays a major role in your company’s success. If you engage with your clients directly and provide exceptional customer service, chances are that your client is likely to return.

As part of her second tip, Lisa advises that you are fully engaged with your client — not distracted. If a client senses that you are distracted, they may get the idea that you are not 100 percent committed to them. This can negatively impact your business because the customer may not return and might prefer to take their business elsewhere. Lisa says that providing an engaging environment for your clients is a surefire way to succeed in sales.

Be Relentless

As a sales professional, you are going to experience more than a few slamming doors no matter what industry you work for. The key here is not to let every single “no” bring you down.

“Great sales professionals don’t stop at one no,” Lisa says. “They follow up until the sale is either won or lost.”

Rather than allowing rejection to knock you over, allow it to push you forward as you continue to improve and perfect your craft. Take criticism constructively and be persistent in your efforts to sell more.

Crush Approval Addiction

To be great in the business world and increase your sales, you need to overcome your desire to please everyone. The first step in doing this is to realize that one person’s approval matters the most: your client’s.

Lisa argues that a true businessperson is not concerned with making friends. Rather, they are concerned with making clients. Once that relationship is established, it is your responsibility to move the relationship forward and do everything with your client in mind.

The great ones aren’t worried about making friends, they are concerned about clients for life,” Lisa says. “If you’re a great salesperson you do what’s right by the client.”

Execution is Key

Once everything is said and done, one of the most important and final steps is execution.

You must be able to execute all that is promised and expected by the client,” Lisa strongly advises.

Execution goes hand-in-hand with customer satisfaction. Fulfilling promises made to the client, as well as their expectations, in the best way possible will ensure a satisfied customer who is likely to return to your business for their needs. If you fail to meet the customer’s needs or expectations, you have failed in the execution step and this may impact your business negatively. Simply remember that your client is who’s most important here and they must have any and every need met.
